Varyag was a protected cruiser built by Russian Empire in 1898.
At the very beginning of the Russo-Japanese war, Japanese fleet launched preemptive strike on Chemulpo Bay (now part of Incheon Bay). Varyag suffered great damage and was later captured by Japanese. She was repaired into a training ship and renamed to Soya (そうや).
