Sister ship of Vittorio Veneto-class battleship. For its size, it had powerful artillery, reliable catapult plane capacity and good anti-torpedo protection, but it was poorly protected from air strikes.

The lead ship of the first series of Italian dreadnoughts. In 1930s she was drastically modified getting bigger caliber and longer firing range of main artillery, torpedo defence and higher cruiser speed. This allowed her to remain a formidable opponent for most of battleships-peers.
